FALL 2023 - SPRING 2024 // CRITIC CALEB WHITE, EDWIN LIU // Visual studies of unreal objects occupying ambiguous landscapes
This collection of renders is an exploration that delves into the uncanny and the surreal, presenting a collection of alien-like structures that exist in ambiguous, abstract landscapes. These forms evoke a sense of detachment and displacement, appearing as if they belong to a world outside our own or a distant future. Their uncanny forms blur the line between reality and fiction, challenging viewers to reimagine their understanding of built environments, and what “belongs” in architecture.
The renders emphasize isolation, with each entity standing alone against vast, undefined backdrops, enhancing the sense of estrangement. These structures reject traditional architectural conventions, instead adopting amorphous and fragmented geometries that defy immediate categorization.
